2-Phenylethanol biosynthesis from glucose through the Ehrlich pathway. Glucose metabolized through the Etner-Doudoroff and pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) yield; phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) and erythrose-4-phosphate E4P; which are channeled through the shikimate/chorismate to phenylalanine (PE). Then, the Ehrlich pathway enzyme produces 2-PE. AT, transaminase; PDC, phenylpyruvate decarboxylase; ADH, alcohol dehydrogenase.
